I haven't read all the posts here but one thing has caught my attention as far as soccer headgear goes. Everyone seems to be far more concerned about heading the ball as opposed to heading an opposing player. I've been a soccer parent for the past 8 years. As the level of play has increased so has the number of headed balls. Recently at a tournament I could not believe the number of close calls when a player headed a ball and almost knocked heads with an opposing player trying to do the same thing. I have trained in martial arts for the past 15 years. I have seen the damage the human skull can do to another. It can be frightening. The oocurance may not be as high but I'd rather see my daughter wear head gear if only to keep someone elses head from crushing her cheek, breaking an eye orbit or much worse. The bandana approach seems like a good idea as opposed to whole head gear that kids won't want to wear. I'd like to see the padded bandana made mandatory.
